Canadian Theological Schools

Canadian theological schools offer training in a variety of faith-based subjects. If you would like to study to be a minister, a priest, a theologian, a religion teacher or a researcher, consider one of Canada’s theological schools. Theology schools generally offer post-baccalaureate education, such as master’s and doctorate degrees. Some also offer diplomas or certificates in a variety of ecumenical subjects.
  1. Vancouver School of Theology

    • The Vancouver School of Theology is historically affiliated with the Anglican Church, the United Church and the Presbyterian Church in Canada. Partnerships with Canada’s First Nations and Japan’s Shizuoka Eiwa College further expanded the school’s base. The Vancouver School of Theology offers master’s degree programs, a doctorate program, and certificate and diploma options.

    Toronto School of Theology

    • The largest ecumenical school in Canada, the Toronto School of Theology is a federation of seven schools representing different Christian theologies. These include the United Church of Canada’s Emmanuel College; the Presbyterian Church’s Knox College; the Jesuit Roman Catholic Regis College; the Diocesan Roman Catholic St. Augustine’s Seminary; the Basilian Roman Catholic St. Michael’s College; and the Anglican Trinity College and Wycliffe College. The Toronto School of Theology is affiliated with the University of Toronto, and students have access to University services and facilities.

    Atlantic School of Theology

    • The Atlantic School of Theology is located in Halifax, Nova Scotia. According to the school’s website, the school is “an ecumenical, tri-denominational theological school” with ties to Saint Mary’s University. The Atlantic School of Theology offers master of divinity and master of theological studies degrees, a certificate in theological studies, a diploma in youth ministry and an adult-education certificate in theological studies. Classes are available both on campus and online. Atlantic School of Theology is accredited by the Association of Theological Schools in Canada and the U.S.
