Anglican Theological Schools

Students of religion and those who feel compelled to enter the professional ministry often attend theological seminaries to complete their religious education. In some cases, those who adhere to a particular religious confession--Anglican, Methodist or Baptist, for example--attend seminary at a school that reflects their religious background and beliefs. For those who come from an Anglican background, several options exist for the study of religion.
  1. Virginia Theological Seminary

    • Virginia Theological Seminary (VTS) in Alexandria, Virginia, provides students of religion with a graduate-level education in the Anglican tradition. Founded in 1938, the school is a member of the Association of Theological Schools. The school serves the educational needs of just more than 200 theology students each year. The school offers both master's and doctorate degrees. Most students pursue the standard degree that trains them for ministerial vocations, the Master of Divinity (M.Div.). The school also offers a master's in theological studies and a master's in Christian education. A second Christian education degree is offered with an emphasis in youth ministry as well. At the doctoral level, VTS offers the Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) in the areas of educational leadership and ministry development.
