Diagnostic Medical Sonography Schools in Ohio

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics finds that employment of ultrasound professionals, also known as diagnostic medical sonographers, will increase by 18 percent through to 2018. According to the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, there are ten schools in Ohio that offer training in diagnostic medical sonography. Interested students may choose from certificate, diploma or degree-level credentials.

    • Central Ohio Technical College offers an associate of applied science degree with a major in diagnostic medical sonography technology with a choice of two concentrations: general or cardiovascular. The former includes coursework in obstetrical and gynecological sonography, abdominal ultrasound and breast sonography while the latter emphasizes cardiovascular sonography, echocardiography and vascular ultrasound technology.

    Cincinnati State Technical Community

    • Cincinnati State Technical Community College offers both a certificate and an associate of applied science degree in diagnostic medical sonography. The associate program combines general education coursework with specialized sonography training. Both credentials offer two concentrations: obstetric-gynecology and cardiovascular.

    • Kettering College of Medical Arts offers both a three-year associate degree in medical sonography and a Bachelor of Science in Health Professions with a major in medical sonography. Both programs consist of one year of prerequisite coursework followed by two years of training in abdominal and vascular technology, echocardiography and gynecological-obstetric ultrasound. Students have the option to graduate with an associate degree or complete an additional year of advanced coursework to earn a baccalaureate credential.

    • Lorain County Community College offers an associate of applied science degree with a major in sonography. Students complete one semester of coursework in medical terminology, patient care, anatomy and physiology, English and math before formal admission into the program.
