Concordia College-Selma (CCS) is part of the larger Concordia University system, which oversees ten schools throughout the United States. CCS offers bachelor's degrees in social and behavioral sciences. The college is also the only historically-black Lutheran institution in the United States. As of 2008, approximately 500 students were enrolled at the school.
Concordia College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, one of six regional bodies recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
The Concordia College-Selma Hornets compete in football, soccer, basketball, softball, baseball and track as part of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
Selma University is a Baptist Bible college located on the outskirts of the city. The school was founded in 1878 as a school for African-American ministers. In the 1900s, Selma University was a Christian liberal arts college before becoming a Bible college in 2000.
The university offers an associate's degree in Bible and Theology, as well as bachelor's degrees in General Studies, which includes core hours of biblical training. Selma University also offers Master of Arts degrees in Pastoral Ministry and Christian Education. Selma University also operates extension centers in Alabama, Mississippi and Florida.
The school is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education (ABHE), which is recognized by the Department of Education as a valid accrediting agency for biblical studies.
George Corley Wallace Community College (WCCS) was founded in 1963 as a trade school. In 1989, the school added fine arts programs.
Wallace Community College offers associate's degrees in nursing, business, computer information systems, criminal justice and fire science. In addition, the school offers 16 technical programs in fields such as auto body repair, cosmetology and welding. Over 1,700 students are enrolled in WCCS degree and certificate programs.
As of 2010, the school is one of 23 colleges to join the Rural Community College Initiative, which provides funding for technology in rural community colleges.
Wallace Community College competes in varsity baseball and basketball as part of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Like Concordia College-Selma, Wallace Community College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
