The Community College of Baltimore County's horticulture degree program leads students to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree. This program is designed for students who are interested in preparing for entry as a horticulture specialist in the field of ornamental horticulture. Students in this program will gain practical experience and knowledge in three areas: greenhouse production or floral design; turf and grounds maintenance; and landscape design, installation and maintenance. Students will take horticulture courses that include interior plant material, herbaceous garden plants, nursery and greenhouse management, plant propagation and production and plant classification and identification.

Washington State University has a Bachelor of Science degree program in horticulture where students may choose between three areas of specialization. Students can choose environmental horticulture, fruit and vegetable horticulture and viticulture and enology as their focus. Classes that students will take will vary depending on whether they are more interested in production, scientific teaching and research or business and marketing. Students will take horticulture courses that include studying cultivated plants, crop growth and development, landscape plant materials, introduction to vines and wines, plants and society and greenhouse management and crop production.

The University of Minnesota at Crookston offers a horticulture degree program that leads students to earn a Bachelor of Science degree. Students can select an area of emphasis from urban forestry, environmental landscaping or horticulture production. Students in this program will take courses that include an introduction to plant pathology, introduction to horticulture, soil fertility and plant nutrition, entomology and woody plant materials. Depending on their emphasis area, students will also take landscape design, principles of turf management, indoor flowering and foliage plants, plant taxonomy, introduction to arboriculture and urban forestry planning and management.
