St. John’s University has a bachelor of science program in physician assistant studies. The degree program emphasizes anatomy, biology and clinical knowledge. For the first two years, students focus on theoretical knowledge; once they have proven a mastery of theory, students apply their skills in a supervised clinical setting. Clinical rotations can take place in a variety of settings, including private practices, medical centers and hospitals. Upon completion of the program, students will be prepared to take the physician assistant licensing exam.

Howard University has a 166-unit undergraduate program that includes both classroom curriculum and clinical fieldwork. The course curriculum is divided into 60 units of lower division study and 106 units of upper division study. Lower division courses include general education and upper division classes are more specific to the physician assistant major. Courses in the program include medical terminology, human anatomy and pharmocology. Students complete a clinical clerkship in their senior year that lasts for 45 weeks.

University of Washington offers a bachelor-level physician assistant program known as the MEDEX Northwest program. Offered through the university's school of medicine, MEDEX Northwest has been offered since 1969 and accepts an average of 75 students each year. Students must complete 141 credits that consist of course work including basic clinical skills, pathophysiology for primary care and emergency medicine. Four clinical clerkship rotations must be completed in the final year, including two in a family practice setting.
