LPN to RN Programs Near DeLand, Florida

Many licensed practical nurses (LPNs) decide to advance in their career paths and pursue higher education to become registered nurses (RNs). There are many programs available near Deland, Florida for nurses who want to transition from LPNs to RNs. Most take between one and two years to complete, and allow the students to continue working part time.     • Daytona State College, about 20 miles from DeLand, Florida, offers two-year degree programs in nursing, including an accelerated program for LPNs to transition to RNs. Applicants must take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) before acceptance to the program. Students who wish to enter the accelerated program must have completed a series of prerequisite courses prior to application. LPNs will be given 10 hours of course credits for advanced standing. This program is three semesters long, which can be completed within a calendar year. Graduates from this program that pass the RN examination are eligible for enrollment into a bachelor's of nursing program.

    Valencia Community College

    • Valencia Community College is located in Orlando, Florida, about 40 miles from DeLand. The college has around 40,000 students enrolled among its four different campuses. The LPN to RN program at this school is called the Advanced Standing Track Nursing Program, and takes approximately one year to complete. This program only accepts 24 students per term, and applications are accepted twice a year. Most of the required courses for this track can be completed online, although the school's website states that testing and orientation will be on-campus. Applicants must have a current LPN license and an IV Therapy Certification.

    Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences

    • This private college is operated by the Seventh Day Adventist Church as part of its Florida Hospital health care system. The school is located in downtown Orlando, about 40 miles from DeLand. The college offers an advanced placement track for its associate degree in nursing program, for students who already have LPN licenses. According to the school's website, LPNs receive seven hours of nursing experience credit, and enter the program during the second trimester of the year. This program takes approximately two years to complete, and requires a minimum of 50 hours of community service.
