Central Kentucky Colleges

Central Kentucky encompasses the small communities between Lexington and the Tennessee border. This region is known for its tobacco farms, horse racing and long stretches of bluegrass. Area students often look at public schools like the University of Kentucky in Lexington after high school. There are also several private colleges in central Kentucky with liberal arts programs, extracurricular opportunities and on-campus housing.

    St. Catharine College

    • St. Catharine College is a Catholic college that offers undergraduate degrees in fields, such as criminal justice and sports leadership. This school also features two-year degree programs that cover fields from social work to radiography. Students can utilize services at the Academic Resource Center to improve grades and find part-time employment. The Emily W.     Centre College

    • Students at Centre College choose from 27 majors including German studies, dramatic arts and chemistry. This central Kentucky school schedules courses in nine languages, including ancient Greek and Mandarin. The John C. Young Scholars Program is a competitive program for seniors interested in completing advanced research. Centre College maintains an extensive housing area with 22 residence halls, six apartments and Greek Park. Students pursue interests outside of the classroom in organizations like Japanese Club and Centre Radio. The Norton Center for the Arts hosts concerts and theatrical productions throughout the school year.

    Midway College

    • Midway College is a women's college in central Kentucky that is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. Majors at Midway College include political science, education and psychology. Business students can apply to the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) program at this private college. The school also attracts equine studies majors with the Equine Education Center, the Keeneland Stable and four equestrian teams. Little Memorial Library maintains an extensive collection of books, newspapers and journals for student research. Students stay close to classrooms and activities in the college's two residence halls.
