Baptist Colleges in Kentucky

According to the Kentucky Baptist Convention (kybaptist.org) -- a part of the Southern Baptist Convention (sbc.org) -- Kentucky has approximately 780,000 Baptist Christians attending at over 2,400 churches throughout the state. After graduating high school, Kentucky students of Baptist faith have opportunities to attend a college with Christian-related activities and degrees. Most Baptist colleges in Kentucky are affiliated with Kentucky Baptist Convention.
  1. Commonwealth Baptist College

    • Commonwealth Baptist College (commonwealthbaptist.org) is in western Lexington. This college provides a Bachelor degree in Pastoral Theology and a Bachelor degree in Missions. Commonwealth also has an Associate degree in Education and an Associate degree in Office Administration. The school offers a one-year certificate in Biblical Studies. Commonwealth Baptist College was founded in 1999 as an educational outreach of Clays Mill Road Baptist Church (cmrbc.org) in Lexington. Students at Commonwealth may participate in off-campus ministries, including church visitation, Sunday school classes and nursing home ministry. Commonwealth also hosts chapel sermons throughout the year.

    Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

    • Located in Louisville, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary (sbts.edu), or SBTS, was the first seminary affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. The seminary opened in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1859. After the Civil War, SBTS moved to Louisville. Master of Divinity and Master of Arts degrees are available at SBTS. Some Masters degrees include Christian Ministry, Applied Apologetics, College Ministry, Biblical Counseling and Theological Studies. Student ministries include the Great Commission Center -- a discipling program -- and Reaching Out Louisville, which offers evangelical opportunities for SBTS students.

    Georgetown College

    • Founded in 1829, Georgetown College (georgetowncollege.edu) was the first Baptist college established in the Southeast United States. The college is in Georgetown, a northern suburb in the greater Lexington area. Undergraduate degrees include Church Music, Philosophy and Religion, while a youth ministries minor and a families studies minor are available. The only available Master's degree at Georgetown is a Master of Arts in Education. Although Georgetown College is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention, the college does not need the Convention's approval when voting in trustees. The college offers Christian worship services at Hill Chapel and pastor counseling upon request.

    Campbellsville University

    • Campbellsville University (campbellsville.edu) is in Campbellsville, a small city in Central Kentucky. This small college was founded in 1906 and is currently affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention. As of 2011, Campbellsville University has an enrollment of over 3,200 students. This university offers Bachelor degrees in Pastoral Ministries, Sports Ministry, Worship Arts and Educational Ministries. Campbellsville also provides Master's degrees in Church Music and Education. The school's Baptist Campus Ministries program offers opportunities for students to fellowship with each other and participate in overseas missions.
