2-Year Colleges in Georgia

There are any number of reasons why students may choose to attend a two-year college in Georgia; they may not be able to afford a more expensive four-year university, or not feel ready for making that educational commitment, or they may be interested in a technical or vocational degree that can be earned in just two years. The University System of Georgia includes 35 two- and four-year colleges and universities; those who graduate from two-year colleges earn associate's degrees.
  1. Greater Atlanta

    • With approximately 25,000 students, Georgia Perimeter College (gpc.edu), or GPC, is the largest two-year college in the Peach State. This school also has the third-highest attendance of Georgia's higher learning institutes. GPC has five locations in the greater Atlanta area; the main campus is in Alpharetta. As of April 2011, GPC offers 40 associate's degrees.

      Atlanta Metropolitan College (atlm.edu), or AMC, is in south Atlanta. Founded in 1974, this public two-year school offers associate's degrees in the fields of arts, science and applied science.

    Methodist Affiliation

    • Located in Cuthbert, Andrew College (andrewcollegecares.com) is a two-year junior college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It's one of the oldest two-year colleges in Georgia, founded in 1854,and offers associate's degrees in the areas of fine arts, social science, humanities, and math and science.

      Young Harris College (yhc.edu) is in Young Harris, a small town in the North Georgia Mountains. This private liberal arts college has been affiliated with the United Methodist Church since it was founded in 1886. Associate's degrees include English, musical theater and communication studies.

    Technology

    • Abraham Baldwin College (abac.edu), or ABC, was founded in 1908 and originally named Second District A&M School. As of April 2011, ABC has more than 3,200 students and offers degrees in wildlife technology, biological/agricultural engineering and forest technology. Although it's primarily a two-year college, ABC does offer a four-year degree in natural resource management.

      Technical degrees, such as surgical technology and veterinary technology, are available at Ogeechee Technical College (ogeecheetech.edu), a two-year school in Statesboro. This college, founded in 1987 and a member of the Technical College System of Georgia, offers certificate, diploma and associate's degree programs.

    University System of Georgia

    • Located in Albany, Darton College (darton.edu) offers associate's degrees in the fields of allied health, nursing and business. This two-year college, founded in 1963, also offers the Division of Online Learning, which allows students to obtain degrees without having to attend classes.

      East Georgia College (ega.edu) in Swainsboro features the Statesboro Center, a learning option for students who want to attend Georgia Southern University but don't meet the academic standards for freshmen.
