Southern Florida Colleges

Students around the United States are attracted to colleges in Southern Florida thanks to the region's beautiful weather. Communities such as Sarasota, Tampa and Cape Coral feature beaches and parks that are student destinations away from the classroom. Southern Florida colleges keep students on campus with clubs, arts venues and other activities. You can visit a variety of community colleges and four-year schools in cities south of Orlando.

    • Southwest Florida College features campuses in Tampa and Fort Myers. Students can choose from two-year degree programs ranging from medical billing and paralegal studies to web design. Four-year programs cover fields such as criminal justice and interior design. The Academic Success Center assists students with tutoring and short courses on study skills. The Learning Resource Center houses books, computer labs and reference materials necessary for student research. This southern Florida college provides funding for student organizations such as the Information Technology Club and the Allied Health Club.

    Palm Beach State College

    • Palm Beach State College operates campuses in Belle Glade, Lake Worth and Palm Beach Gardens. Programs in subjects ranging from biotechnology to interior design may lead to an associate's degree or certificate and a career, or students may continue for a four-year degree at Palm Beach State College or another four-year school. The Career Center hosts seminars on resume building, interview skills and basic computer skills. Students at the main campus in Lake Worth can head to the Jan and Gary Dario Gallery to view art exhibits. Extracurricular organizations such as the Soccer Club and New Media Club allow students to pursue their interests.

    New College of Florida

    • The campus of New College of Florida stretches along the coast of the Sarasota Bay. Students select from undergraduate programs including anthropology, marine biology and urban studies. The Jane Bancroft Cook Library maintains thousands of books and journals, along with online databases. Residence life facilities at New College of Florida include three residence halls, the Hamilton Center Student Union and the Fitness Center. The Mildred Sainer Fine Arts Pavilion hosts concerts, plays and art exhibits throughout the school year. Students can spend time outside of the classroom in organizations such as the Fencing Club and Sarasota IndyMedia.

    Florida Southern College

    • Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida, offers undergraduate programs in the arts and sciences ranging from advertising and horticultural science to online media and theatre arts to nursing, business and education. Graduate students can choose from advanced programs in business administration, nursing, teaching and education. Reference librarians at the Roux Library assist students with database searches and archival research. Student housing includes four freshman halls, five upperclassmen halls and a Greek housing area. The Nina B. Hollis Wellness Center hosts intramural sports and fitness classes for active students. Organizations like the Horn Club and the Sport Medicine Society provide leadership opportunities to students.
