Accredited Florida Colleges

There are more than 500 postsecondary schools in Florida that have been accredited by an accrediting authority recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. Accredited educational institutions in Florida include community colleges; career, technical and vocational schools; four-year colleges and universities; and graduate and professional schools. Some of the colleges are not only accredited but are also uniquely rich in history and academic excellence including NAACP colleges, colleges for students with special needs, Christian colleges and colleges which began and remain primarily as community colleges but have expanded their curriculum to include bachelor's degrees.

    • Ave Maria University was accredited in 2008 by both the American Academy for Liberal Education and the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Ave Maria University is located in Naples. Academic departments at Ave Maria University include biology and chemistry, classics and early Christian literature, economics, history, literature, mathematics and physics, philosophy, politics, sacred music and theology.     • Beacon College was accredited in 2003 by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Beacon College is located in Leesburg. Beacon College offers associate's and bachelor's degrees. Beacon College serves only students with learning disabilities including students with ADD/ADHD, auditory and visual processing differences, dyslexia, expressive and receptive language deficits, learning disabilities, language-based learning disabilities, reading disabilities, writing disabilities and math disabilities.     Bethune-Cookman College

    • Daytona Educational and Industrial Training School for Negro Girls was founded in 1904 by Mary McLeod Bethune. In 1923, the school merged with Cookman Institute of Jacksonville. In 1924, the school became affiliated with the United Methodist Church. In 1931, it was a junior college and had changed its name to Bethune-Cookman College. In 1941, it began offering bachelor's degree programs in liberal arts and teacher education. Bethune-Cookman College was accredited in 1947 by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. In 1970, Bethune-Cookman College joined the United Negro College Fund. Bethune-Cookman College offers 35 undergraduate degrees and a master's of science degree in transformative leadership. Bethune-Cookman College is located in Daytona Beach.

    Chipola College

    • Chipola College was accredited in 1957 by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Chipola College is located in Marianna. Certificate programs offered at Chipola include automotive service, child care center management, paramedic, emergency medical technician, firefighting, brick and block masonry, cosmetology, nursing assistant, computer systems and correctional officer. Chipola College offers associate's degrees in dental hygiene, business, nursing, elementary education and secondary education. Chipola College offer's bachelor's degrees in business, nursing, elementary education, middle school science, middle school mathematics and secondary education.

    • Clearwater Christian College was accredited in 1984 by the by the Commission on Colleges, Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Clearwater Christian College is located in Clearwater, Florida. Clearwater Christian College offers bachelor's degree programs with majors in biblical studies, business, education, fine arts, humanities and the sciences. Students select from among 26 majors and 17 minors. All students graduate with a minor in Bible.
