Receiving the 2010 top spot in the DesignIntelligence ranking is Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art and Planning. The program is one of the nation's oldest. Approximately 275 undergraduate students are enrolled at one time in the five-year program leading to a bachelor degree in architecture. In 2004, the college began its graduate program, which offers a master of architecture degree. A career services office is available to assist students in finding employment and internships.

The School of Architecture at Syracuse University received a number two ranking in DesignIntelligence in 2010. Both bachelor and master degrees in architecture are offered. Approximately 135 undergraduates enroll each year and must submit an art portfolio in addition to proof of strong academic performance. Classrooms, studios and research facilities for the program are located in Slocum Hall, a building listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The school also has a presence in downtown Syracuse where the Center for Design, Research and Real Estate is located.

Receiving the 2010 spot for third-best architecture college is the department at California Polytechnic State University. The school offers an accredited bachelor of architecture degree. An unaccredited master of science in architecture is also offered, designed as a second degree for those already with a bachelor degree. The five-year undergraduate program places an emphasis on the integration of design and technology and a "learn-by-doing" philosophy.
