Located approximately 40 miles southeast of Denton in Dallas, Southern Methodist University (SMU) is a private university with approximately 11,000 students. The University was established in 1911 by the United Methodist Church, however, today it identifies as nonsectarian. Ranked 56th in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, SMU offers approximately 80 majors in undergraduate, graduate and professional programs. The University encompasses seven schools including the Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences; Dedman School of Law; and Perkins School of Theology. Available courses of study include concentrations in art history, computer engineering, biochemistry and Latin American and Iberian Studies. The university has 10 colleges and schools including the College of Education and Health Professions, School of Social Work, and the School of Urban and Public Affairs. The school's approximately 30,000 students can choose to pursue undergraduate or graduate degrees in 190 majors including accounting, kinesiology, music, math and mechanical and aerospace engineering. Woman's University (TWU) was founded in 1957 as an institution for the higher education of women. Today, it remains the largest university primarily for women in the United States; however, both women and men are accepted. In addition to its main campus in Denton, TWU has health science centers in Dallas and Houston. The Denton campus has a fall 2010 enrollment of over 11,000 students and a total of over 14,000 students were enrolled in the University's three campuses. TWU offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees in a variety of majors including biochemistry, early childhood education, fashion design, drama, and mathematics. The University also offers a limited number of bachelor and masters online degree programs. Texas Woman's University accepts students for fall, spring and summer enrollment.
