University of Arkansas Community College at Hope (UACCH) is a two-year school with an open enrollment. Around 1,300 students attended the school as of February 2011. Founded as the Red River Vocational-Technical School in 1965, it was placed under the Arkansas Department of Higher Education in 1991 and renamed in 1996.
UACCH offers diplomas and certificates for various professional and trade skills including accounting, child care, nursing, industrial electronics, welding technology, law enforcement and forensics. They also offer Associate degrees in a number of disciplines with majors in agriculture, business, education, legal studies, law enforcement administration, police science and general liberal arts, which are primarily geared to students who want to transfer into a bachelor program at a four-year school.
UACCH sits on a 72-acre campus which houses a student center, bookstore, science lab and an Arkansas State Crime Lab. The schools does not have an official sports team but there are a number of clubs and activities.
Southern Arkansas University (SAU) is a public university located in Magnolia, Arkansas, which offers four-year bachelor programs and other degrees. The SAU's departments include the Colleges of Business, Education, Liberal and Performing Arts and Science and Technology. Students can major in finance, economics, education, history, political science, music, communications, biology, chemistry, mathematics, computer science and nursing. SAU also has a graduate program, offering masters' degrees in public administration, business administration, education and science.
