Forensic Colleges

Forensic science is the scientific investigation of criminal activity and law enforcement-related events. This is a broad category and includes everything from biochemistry and sociology to technology and computer science. An undergraduate degree in any of these fields will help a person begin their career. If further education is desired, a graduate degree can help a student to focus on one particular area of forensic science study.

    • This school has undergraduate programs in forensic science. Students are given insight to both crime scene analysis and biochemistry. The campus, located in Orlando, is home to the National Center for Forensic Science. This is an organization of the National Institute of Justice. The partnership created by these two entities creates a very active educational environment for the student.

    University of Mississippi

    • According to Education Portal, the American Academy of Forensic Scientists ranked this university's forensic chemistry program one of the top five in the nation. The Forensic Science and Technology bachelor's degree program here teaches the application of physical, biomedical and social sciences in criminal law and investigation. Students will gain knowledge in lab technology, crime scene analysis, fingerprinting, document analysis and examination procedures. Further courses include forensic dentistry, forensic medicine, anthropology, psychology and pathology.

    Loyola University in New Orleans

    • U.S. News ranks this school No. 7 in its regional best university rankings. The forensic program offered here is titled Bachelor of Science in Forensic Chemistry. This program includes two advanced forensic analytical and chemistry courses, plus an internship at a local crime lab. Unlike many other forensic programs, this one is a degree in chemistry mainly with a focus on analytical forensics. Instructors working at this school are also active employees of the Jefferson Parish Crime Laboratories.

    • Kaplan University is an online college with a criminal justice program. According to ForensicColleges.net, this school is one of the largest and most respected schools on the Internet. The criminal justice program at Kaplan offers a forensic science course, Forensic Biology and Impression Evidence. Students learn fingerprint identification, biology and evidence handling, serology, DNA, document examination and computer forensics. A degree in criminal justice from Kaplan will help you begin any career in the forensic or law enforcement field.
