List of Forensic Science Colleges in Massachusetts

Forensic scientists are in high demand in 2010. Though no justice system is perfect, the objectivity afforded by science coupled with the cutting edge crime scene technologies of forensics has greatly improved the legitimacy of countless jury decisions. The metro Boston area has a handful of schools producing forensic scientists ready for the field.

    • The interdisciplinary program in Forensic Science at Massachusetts' Bay Path College is built on a foundation of well-established, academically competitive programs in biology, chemistry, criminal justice, psychology and legal studies. Instruction in the Bay Path Forensic Science program combines small classroom instruction and hands on experience in the college's state of the art forensics lab, which has a cutting edge Genetic Analysis System for DNA gene sequencing.     Suffolk University

    • Massachusetts' Suffolk University offers students of Biochemistry a concentration in Forensic Science. The school initiated the Forensic Science program to meet market demands for specialists in the area. An organizational affiliation with the Boston Police Crime laboratory provides Suffolk students with expert insight, real world work opportunities and important professional networking opportunities, though participation in government crime labs is contingent upon Forensic Science Committee approval. The interdisciplinary concentration incorporates elements of chemistry, biology, criminalistics, history, physics, math, English and social sciences.

    Mount Ida College

    • Mount Ida College allows Massachusetts students to major in Applied Forensic Science. The school's Forensics program is designed to provide the education necessary to scientifically analyze a crime scene from a forensic perspective, within the overall framework of a liberal arts education. Interdisciplinary courses in criminalistics, toxicology, pathology, dental analysis, engineering, chemistry, biology, physics and criminal justice prepare students for careers with police investigative laboratories, district attorneys' offices, hospitals and government agencies. All students are required to complete a senior year externship in the forensics field.
