Carnegie Mellon University tied with four other colleges as the best computer science college in the United States on the "Best Colleges of 2010" rankings compiled by "U.S. News and World Report." Located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the private, nonsectarian college has more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students. The university's School of Computer Science grants Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science, computational biology, computer science and arts and computer science and music technology. Also available is a five-year combined program that allows students to graduate with both a baccalaureate and master's degree in the field as well as a combined bachelor's of computer science and Master of Business Administration degree program. All undergraduate students have the opportunity to complete independent research studies, and the university hosts an annual symposium that features student work. Master's and doctorate degrees are also awarded in computer science.

For undergraduates, the college offers both a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in computer science.
