The College of Saint Benedict is a women's college that provides curriculum specific to helping women establish themselves as leaders in the pursuit of knowledge of things intellectual and spiritual. The liberal arts school offers nutrition science as one of its degree programs, providing students an educational background that prepares them to use their knowledge of nutrition in careers in the medical industry or in food and nutritional research. Classwork is part of the educational process, but students are also involved in clinical work as they learn how to apply their knowledge of nutrition in real-world situations.

Saint John's University is affiliated with the College of St. Benedict, but it's a men's college that creates its curriculum specifically for application by young men. The nutrition science degree program at St. John's is a research-driven program that prepares students for careers in the food science industry or for graduate-level study in dietetics, sports nutrition or even medical school. Students learn how to conduct studies, write proposals and present research results. That skill set gets graduates ready either to work in research-based nutrition careers or perform the clinical work required of graduate students.
