The University of Missouri's College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources offers degree options in the study of horses. Students may pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science, with an Equestrian Science minor. The curriculum includes classes in horse production and equine breeding, as well as classes taken at the state's Stephens College. UM also offers a dual degree option, allowing students to study for a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Equestrian Science. This program is considered a forerunner to a professional program, since it is demanding and generally takes longer than the standard four-year program. Classes are also taken at Stephens College.

William Woods University began 140 years ago as a school for girls, and after various transformations, the school became a university in 1993. Today, the university is co-ed, and offers a number of educational opportunities, including various equestrian options. WWU is known for being the creator of the Equestrian Science program, offering a four-year course of study. Students may study for an Equestrian Science or Equine Administration degree. The Equine Science program offers a bachelor of science degree, with components of health, first, aid, nutrition and management, in addition to others. The BS in Equine Administration offers courses in accounting, communication and business, as well as many of the facets of the Equestrian Science offering. Riding options are also available.

Stephens College was founded in 1833 as a college for women, and continues to serve an all-female population. The college provides a number of degree options, including those for students interested in pursuing equestrian studies as a degree. Students may choose from a bachelor of science with a focus in business management or education. There is also a program in animal science, which is conducted with the University of Missouri. Furthermore, Stephens offers a master's degree, which is comprised of the BS in Equestrian Education and a program at Washington University in occupational therapy. This undertaking takes a total of five years. Students at SC may also pursue studies in animal science or equestrian studies as a minor. There are riding options for students wishing to pursue various techniques.
