Founded in 1905 as a teachers' college, Missouri State University has evolved into a fully accredited university with over 150 undergraduate majors, a school of agriculture and 45 graduate programs. Over 23,000 students are registered at campuses located in Springfield, Mountain Grove, West Plains and Dalian, China. The second oldest Jesuit university in the United States, Saint Louis University was founded in 1818. Its Madrid, Spain campus was the first dedicated campus of an American academic institution founded outside the country. Over 100 undergraduate academic programs are offered, including pre-med and pre-law. Flight-science, aerospace engineering and professional pilot instruction are three of the specialized programs available. Undergraduate enrollment in 2010 was over 8,000, and over 5,000 students are enrolled in graduate programs. ACT scores and a high school transcript must be included in an application package. The educational ideals of Thomas Jefferson, an early supporter of higher education, led to the founding of the University of Missouri System. The first institution of higher education in the Louisiana Purchase Territory supported by public funds, the System has grown to over 70,000 students and four campuses: Columbia, Rolla, Saint Louis and Kansas City. The Rolla campus emphasizes science and technology and offers extensive engineering courses. The University is one of the largest research facilities in the nation. International studies include exchange programs in South Africa, Asia and the European Union. If you graduate high school with 17 units of college preparatory classes, are in the top 10 percent of your graduating class and submit SAT or ACT scores with your application, you will be eligible for automatic admission to any of the four campuses. The main campus of Missouri Central University is located in Warrensburg. A second center at Lee's Summit also offers classes. Nearly 9,000 undergraduates and over 2,000 graduate students study at Missouri Central. While associate degrees and certificates are offered, the university encourages bachelor's and master's degree studies and programs. Sciences, technology and the arts are a few of the colleges that offer undergraduate degrees. There are also pre-physical therapy and occupational safety and health curricula.
