The University of Missouri, or Mizzou, taught its first engineering course in 1849. Ten years later, the Board of Curators established the School of Civil Engineering. Today, the School of Engineering at Mizzou has nine academic departments, including departments for biological engineering, chemical engineering, and nuclear science and engineering. The engineering college also offers an undergraduate research program that provides money and the opportunity to graduate with the Honors Scholar designation.
Washington University in St. Louis is a private research university that offers engineering degrees through the School of Engineering & Applied Science. The objective of the school is to create a unique program that combines research and education in engineering, and offers undergraduate and graduate programs as well as research opportunities for students. Engineering activities sponsored by the school include celebrations of National Engineers Week and Engineering Alumni Achievement Awards.
Saint Louis University is a private, Catholic, Jesuit university that is ranked as one of the top research institutions in the United States. The Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology offers degrees in aerospace and mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and aviation science. Graduate and undergraduate programs are available. Students of the Parks College compete in competitions of innovation and product design.
Missouri S&T has nine engineering academic departments, from chemical and biological engineering to interdisciplinary engineering. The school also has many engineering organizations, such as the American Society for Engineering Management, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. A special Freshman Engineering Program has a staff and a website with resources for freshman engineering students.
