Missouri Economics Colleges

As the world economy becomes more diverse and complicated, opportunities for careers in business and finance have increased. A degree in economics can prepare a student for a career or advanced study in a variety of fields from teaching to business administration. The state of Missouri has a number of state and private schools that offer degrees in economics.   1. Missouri University of Science and Technology

    • Focusing primarily on scientific and technical training, Missouri University of Science and Technology (MST) offers an economics program designed to educate students in a variety of fields. The economics department aims to prepare students for careers in business, finance, law study, government and public policy as well as teaching economics on the secondary level. As a technical university, MST seeks to integrate economics, business and technology with an emphasis on teamwork and information resources.

    The University of Missouri - Columbia

    • The University of Missouri at Columbia is the first and largest of the MU campuses and has an economics department within its College of Arts and Science. The large and well-funded university has extensive resources that allow economics faculty to edit academic journals, obtain external research funding and operate in a consulting capacity for businesses and government. While the economics department resides within the College of Arts and Science, the department offers degrees not only within that college but also the College of Business. The department also offers MA and PhD level study in economics, as well as joint MA degrees with mathematics and statistics and other joint MA and JD degrees.

    Washington University

    • One of Missouri's oldest and most selective post-secondary institutions, Washington University has an economics department that offers study at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. The undergraduate program focuses on microeconomics and macroeconomics and incorporates the study of these small-scale and global-scale studies into a full picture of the role of economics in society. The program seeks to give its undergraduate students a solid foundation from which to pursue an MBA. The Master's degree program requires completion of 27-30 units of B average graduate work and a Master's thesis or essay. The PhD program requires four years of study within the school's doctoral program as well as the presentation of a doctoral thesis.

    Missouri State University

    • Missouri State University, formerly Southwest Missouri State University, offers Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees within its undergraduate program. The Bachelor of Arts features liberal arts study with a focus on economics, while the Bachelor of Science may be a comprehensive or non-comprehensive degree. The non-comprehensive degree requires the normal general education requirements of any BS degree with the inclusion of one minor area of study outside the economics department. The comprehensive degree requires 18 hours in economics or nine hours in two disciplines within the department.

    Harmon College of Business Administration - University of Central Missouri

    • The University of Central Missouri features an economics program within its Harmon College of Business Administration. The faculty come from diverse research backgrounds from environmental aid and valuation of sports teams to investigation of statistical methodologies. The faculty engage themselves in economics research and work within professional organizations. The Bachelor of Science degree focuses primarily on analytical economics, from forecasting and economic development to managerial economics and business economics. The Bachelor of Arts degree includes study of and competency in a foreign language in addition to the general study of economics and best suits students interested in general study or pursuing a JD.
