How to Make a Header for an MLA Bibliography

First-time essay writers may struggle when attempting to properly format their research paper in MLA style. Nothing can be more frustrating than finishing your work only to spend a disproportionate amount of time making sure everything fits the style's standard. Setting up the header for your bibliography usually does not require any extra work because the header should remain the same throughout your paper. Set up your word processing program to automatically insert the header with your name and page number on every page.

Click "Home" and choose "Times New Roman" as your font and "12" as the font's size.

    • 5

      Click the "Design" tab again.

    • 6

Click "Page Numbering" then "Top of Page." A list of page number formatting options appears.

    • 7

Set your page number to right alignment by selecting "Plain Number 3."

    • 8

Type your last name directly to the left of the page number. The menu closes.

    • 9

Select "Different first page" from the ribbon. This leaves the header off the first page to abide by MLA style guidelines.
