Begin a working bibliography at the start of your work. Include such information as author's name, publication title, publisher, publisher location, publishing date, page numbers and other relevant information that will assist the reader in locating your sources. Verify all author and publication details to be sure your information is accurate and current. Review the working bibliography against each parenthetical reference and footnote in your document to make sure all details are matching.
Once you complete your paper, you will transfer your working bibliography into a works cited list. The three main parts of an entry are cited in the following order: author's name, title of the work and publication information. Use the appropriate MLA citation style for each type of document that was included in your work such as a brochure, book, journal or electronic document.
Begin the works cited page immediately following the last page of your document. Type "Works Cited" at the top of the first page of the list. Number the pages following the sequential order of the main document in the far top corner of the page. Arrange all entries that were included as parenthetical citations and notes in alphabetical order beginning with the author's last name or the publication title if the author's last name is unavailable. Double-space between entries. Use a 1-inch margin for the first line of the citation for each reference, use a hanging indent of .5 inches on each line following the first line of the same reference.
