Authors' names are inverted within the reference list. The last name comes first followed by a comma and the the first initial for the author. Follow this format for papers that have up to six authors. If there are more than six authors place ellipses after the name of the sixth author and list the last author's name.
The reference list is alphabetized using the last name of the first author of every paper. If there are papers by the same author then list those papers by the publication year with the earliest publication first.
Within the reference capitalize all major words in a journal title. If the title is not from a journal article then only capitalize the first letter of the first word. For non-journal titles also capitalize the first letter of the first words that follow a dash or colon, as well as subtitles and proper nouns. However do not capitalize the first letter of the second word in a hyphenated compound word.
Indent all lines after the first line in a reference by one-half inch from the left. This is a hanging indentation.
Start the reference list on a new page at the end of the work or essay. At the top of the page, centered, type the word "References." The reference list should follow the line spacing format of the work; normally double spaced is used.
