How to Reference a Powerpoint in APA

When writing a term paper for college, you must include all sources used for information in a reference list at the end of your paper. This can seem daunting when you have used information from an uncommon source, such as a PowerPoint presentation that you located on the internet. However, the American Psychological Association (APA) citation style for PowerPoint documents is actually quite simple.

Instructions

    • 1

List the author's last name and first initial in the following format:

      Smith, G.

    • 2

List the date of publication in parentheses, followed by a period. This should appear in a year, month, day format. For example:

      (2009, January 8).

If only the month and year are given, format the date in the following manner:

      (2009, January).

If only the year is given, format the date in the following manner:

      (2009).

If no date is given, use:

      (n.d.).

    • 3

List the title of the presentation. Capitalize only the first letter of the title, and the first letter of any proper nouns. For example:

      Global warming and Chinese law

    • 4

List the format of the presentation in brackets, followed by a period. This should appear as follows:

      [PowerPoint slides].

    • 5

List the full URL in the following format:

      Retrieved from http://www.ualibrary.edu/jhgjk/iuyh/37gb

    • 6

Ensure that the finished citation appears in the following format:

Smith, G. (2009, January 8). Global warming and Chinese law [PowerPoint Slides].

      Retrieved from http://www.ualibrary.edu/jhgjk/iuyh/37gb
