Sports medicine programs are graduate degree programs, leading to a master of science degree, that give students the skills and knowledge to pursue positions as physical therapists, athletic trainers and other sports medicine professionals. The programs also prepare students for the Board of Certification examination, which tests their knowledge and skill in the six major areas of sports medicine: injury prevention; clinical evaluation and diagnosis; immediate medical care; treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning; organization and administration; and professional responsibility. Students learn through lectures and hands-on experience with several sports, including team and individual. Students also attend training in on-campus athletic training facilities and off-campus medical facilities.
