The Massachusetts Maritime Academy, on Cape Cod offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in such fields as emergency management, maritime business and facilities management along with broad-based programs in the humanities and social sciences. Students can pursue a Merchant Marine officer's license and a naval officer's commission.
Detachment 340 of the United States Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) is based at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), where it educates and trains young cadets in Air Force customs, field training, leadership and officer qualifications.
Students in the ROTC program in military science at WPI (the "Bay State Battalion") pursue a path of education, field training and management with the goal of becoming officers in the army. Following military service in one of the 16 branches, graduates can become career officers or apply their skills to any number of other professional endeavors.
The Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC,) based at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, offers education for cadets working towards officer commissions. Some of the courses offered are in the areas of leadership and naval combat. Courses are also open to nonenlisted students of Holy Cross.
