Military Community Colleges

Several types of military community colleges serve both military and civilian students. Some of these work through nontraditional campuses that serve their students by granting college credit based on military training and experience, and others provide military training and education to civilians in order to provide a path to a commission in the Armed Services.
  1. Community College of the Air Force

    • America's enlisted airmen receive training through the Community College of the Air Force.

Air University's Community College of the Air Force exclusively serves active duty Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve Airmen across the world. The school does not have a traditional campus but instead has education offices and classes on military bases around the world. According to Lieutenant Colonel Timothy Albrecht PhD, the Community College of the Air Force is the world's largest community college system. After completing all career-specific technical training and general education requirements, Airmen earn Associate of Applied Science Degrees in their specialty. The school is regionally accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

Coastline Community College holds a regional accreditation from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and offers its students an associate of arts degree through distance learning and military training and experience. Unlike the Community College of the Air Force, Coastline Community College accepts both civilian and military students. The school has programs for members of all branches of the military and is a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges.

Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States

    • The Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States is a network of schools and colleges---including five community colleges---founded on military principles such as tradition, honor and service. According to the Association of Military Colleges and Schools of the United States, students do not incur a military service commitment just for enrolling in one of the approved schools, but each college affiliated with the association offers programs that lead to a commission in the United States Armed Services. Students participating in commissioning programs do incur a military service commitment, but these programs aren't mandatory.
