How to Calculate Your UF GPA

You college grade point average affects your ability to get a job after college or to gain acceptance to a graduate school. In the summer of 2009, the University of Florida switched from using just pluses, such as B+ or C+, to using both pluses and minuses, such as A- or D+. Therefore, you have to convert letter grades to numerical grades differently. Any classes taken using the satisfactory or unsatisfactory grading do not affect your University of Florida GPA.

Instructions

Convert grades earned prior to May 11, 2009 using the old GPA values. Each plus adds 0.5 points to the letter grade. For example, a B equals 3 so a B+ equals 3.5.

    • 2

Convert grades earned after to May 11, 2009 using the new GPA values. Each plus adds 0.33 points to the letter grade and each minus subtracts 0.33 from the letter grade. For example, a B equals 3, so a B+ equals 3.33 and a B- equals 2.67.

    • 3

Multiply the numerical equivalent for each grade by the credits earned for that class. For example, if you got 3.33 points for a four-hour class, multiply 3.33 by 4 to get 13.32.

    • 4

Add the grade points earned over all of your classes, and divide the result by the total number of credit hours earned. For example, if you earned 138 grade points over 52 credit hours, divide 138 by 52 to get 2.6538.

Drop any digits after the hundredths places. The University of Florida does not round up. In this example, drop any digits after the hundredths place to find your UF GPA equals 2.65.
