How to Calculate a Grade Point Average (GPA)

Your grade point average (GPA) gives a quick overview of your academic achievement while in high school or college. Your GPA is used to qualify you for scholarships or to determine your class rank when graduating from high school. Also, your GPA determines whether you are given the privilege of being put on the dean's list or president's list while in college. Additionally, many universities give special recognition to college graduates with very high GPAs by awarding the title of summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude. GPAs range from 0 to 4.0.
