How to Find a Grade Point Average

A grade point average (GPA) can determine the colleges in which you will be accepted, the classes you can take and if you can continue onto graduate school. It takes into account the grades you received and the amount of credits per class. Your GPA reflects how well or badly you do in school.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the number equivalent of each letter grade, for example, A=4; B=3; C=2; D=1; and F=0. Depending on the school, the number equivalent of a letter grade may vary.

    • 2

Multiply the number equivalent of the letter grade by the number of credits received for the class to get the grade point. Each class needs to be calculated separately.

    • 3

Add the totals for each class to get the total number of grade points.

    • 4

Divide the total number of grade points by the total number of credits received to find your GPA.
