A grade point average (GPA) is extremely important in the academic world as it sums up your entire academic career in one number. A high GPA can send you to an Ivy League school while a low GPA may lead you to a vocational school. A GPA is the sum of all your grades divided by the number of classes you've taken. A weighted GPA is the same as a GPA; however, each class is weighted differently depending on its difficulty level. Classes are separated into two categories: honors or regular. Different scales are used when it comes to adding up and calculating a GPA, although the 4.0 grade scale is the most prevalent in secondary education.

1
Write down all your classes and note which classes are honors.
-
2
Record the grade you received next to the class you've taken.
-
-
3
Convert the letter grade into a number grade using this scale: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0. Once you've done this, increase the number grade of every honors class by one. For example, the scale should change to A=5, B=4,C=3, D=2, F=0.
-
4
Find the sum of all the grades. Simply add them all together and write down that number.
-
5
Write down the number of all the classes taken.
-
6
Divide the sum of all grades over the number of all the classes taken. This should create a number between 5.0 and 0.0. That is your weighted grade point average.
