Find out the letter grade equivalent for each percentage score on your transcript and the number of credit hours assigned to each course you complete. This information may appear on your transcript. You may also ask a guidance counselor who works at your school.
Assign each of your letter grades a point value using the 4.0 scale. For example, an A will receive a point value of 4, and an F will receive a point value of 0.
Add up the point values of all of your grades. For example, imagine you have 2 As, 3 Bs and 1 C. You would write the following equation: 4 + 4 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 2 = 19.
Add up the credit hours for each class in which you received a grade. For example, imagine that you have completed six classes. If each class is worth one credit hour, then you have a total of six credit hours.
Divide the sum of point values by the sum of credit hours to receive your GPA. For example, if your total point value is 19 and you have earned a total of six credit hours, then your GPA will be 19 divided by 6, which rounds to 3.17.
