Instructions

    • 1

List the grades you've made on each assignment in the course or term. You'll want to write the exact numerical score for each.

    • 2

Next to each grade, list the percentage the assignment is worth. In your percentages column, all numbers should add up to 100 (to represent 100 percent of the course grade).

If you have a category of assignments worth a certain amount, you'll need to average that category and then weight the averaged grade. For example, if tests are worth 40 percent, but you have three tests, you'll want to create a "test average" by adding the scores of the three tests and dividing by three. For example, suppose your test grades are as follows: Test 1: 88; Test 2: 95; and Test 3: 100. Your test average is 94.3, that is (88+95+100)/3 = 94.3.

    • 3

Multiply each assignment (or category of assignments) by its respective weighted average, and list these totals in a third column. For example, if assignment 1 is worth 10 percent and your score is 90, multiply 90 by 0.10 for a total of 9. This number is the weighted value of your grade on the assignment.

    • 4

Add up the numbers in the third column. Once totaled, this number is your weighted average for the course.
