How to Calculate GPA by Grade

When going through college, you should keep track of your grade point average. Your grade point average (GPA) can be very important when you are finding your first job. Many employers and recruiters will ask you for your college GPA for entry-level jobs. So, if you can track your GPA, you will discover if you currently have a strong GPA or find out that you need to work harder to raise your GPA.

Instructions

    • 1

Write down every course you took, your grade in the course and how many credit hours the course was worth. For example, assume you took English and received a B+. The course was four credit hours.

    • 2

Find your grade letter on your school's quality point conversion chart. Most schools use the same chart, or close to the same, but you should check to make sure you are using the proper chart. For this example, a B+ is 3.3 quality points.

    • 3

Multiply the quality points by the credit hours the course is worth. For example, 3.3 X 4 = 13.2 points. Repeat this step for every class you have.

    • 4

Add together all your points and then add together all the credit hours. For example, assume you had 120 points and 34 credit hours.

    • 5

Divide your total points by total credit hours. In the example, 120 points divided by 34 credit hours equals a GPA of 3.53.
