How to Measure Your GPA

A grade point average (GPA) measure a student's overall academic standing using grades from each individual class and averaging them. Averages range from zero to 4.0, which indicates a student received an "A" in every class. Grade point averages are used not only measure a student's grades but to determine eligibility to play sports or even to obtain financial aid -- if the student is in college.

Instructions

    • 1

      Obtain your grade in each of your classes. Write down each grade and count the number of classes you are taking.

    • 2

      Use the following chart to give value to each of your letter grades:

      0 = F

      1 = D

      2 = C

      3 = B

      4 = A

      Add the points for each of your grades. For example, if you are taking six courses and have three "A"s and three "B"s, your total is 21 points.

    • 3

      Divide the number of courses by the total number of points from Step 2. Our example was 21 points and six courses. In this case, divide 21 by six to come up with a grade point average of 3.65.
