How to Convert Your Score to GPA

Your scores in each class you take are used to calculate your grade point average (GPA). Your GPA is an overall accumulation of your grades from each class you have taken for the semester; it is used as a guideline as to your academic performance for the semester. To calculate your GPA you must take your scores from each class and perform a mathematical equation to determine where you stand with your grades.

Instructions

    • 1

      Get your scores, or grades, from each class in which you are enrolled. Your teachers will provide you with either a letter grade or a numerical grade. If you are given a numerical grade, you need to determine which letter grade it stands for. Letter grades are based on the following scores:

      90 -- 100 A

      80 -- 89 B

      70 -- 79 C

      60 -- 69 D

      0 -- 59 F

    • 2

      Give each of your letter grades a numerical value based on the GPA scoring system. Each letter grade is worth the following numerical value:

      A = 4 points

      B = 3 points

      C = 2 points

      D = 1 point

      F = 0 points

    • 3

      Add together the numerical grades for each class. If you have five classes and you have two "A"s, one "B" and two "C"s, your numerical score is 15.

    • 4

      Divide the number of classes you took by the numerical value given to each of your grades. In this instance you took five classes and obtained a numerical value of 15 points total; divide 15 by five to obtain your GPA of 3.0.
