Total the number of credit hours that you have earned. For example, if you have taken five classes at three credit hours each, then your total is 15.
Figure out the total number of points from each grade you have earned. Some schools have different scales for each point value, but usually it is as follows: 4 points for an A, 3 points for a B, 2 points for a C, 1 for a D, and 0 points for an F. Grades with a minus or plus are usually a portion of the point. For example an A- may be a 3.7 and a B+ a 3.3. If you withdraw from a course, a deadline is usually in place to where it will not affect your GPA. Otherwise, they are usually counted as an F, which is 0 points. The same applies to incompletes, which are given to students that may have had some difficulty completing the class during the regular semester, and the professor has allowed them an extension to complete certain assignments. If the extension is successfully completed, then the student receives a traditional grade (A,B,C) depending on the requirements given by the professor, which means they receive the accompanying grade points. If the extension is not done, then the student receives an F, and the student receives 0 grade points.
Multiply the number of points for each grade by the total credit hours. For example, if you got an A for a three credit hour class, you would multiple 3 by 4, giving you a total of 12 points for that class.
Divide the number of total grade points by the total number of credit hours to determine your GPA.
