The United States government offers four federal grants programs for veterans: Veterans Workforce Investment Program (VWIP); Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program (HVRP); Stand Down; and the Incarcerated Veterans' Transition Program (IVTP).
In addition to those offered by the government, many states and private companies offer grants for veterans. Check with the financial aid department of the school you are interested in attending to see what else is available to you.
Some college grants for vets are only available for a limited time after service, for those who served in certain wars or for veterans who finished service during specific time periods.
Veterans can use college grants at various educational institutes beyond traditional four-year universities. Some grants are available for community college and online degrees.
Some of the grants for vets have additional requirements, including financial need and maintenance of academic requirements. Check the U.S. Department of Labor's Competitive Grants website for the latest information.
