College Grants for Military Spouses

There are several grant opportunities available for military spouses. Grant programs help pay for educational costs. Each branch of the military sponsors its own programs, with benefits that range from $300 to $2,500 per year.
  1. Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts

    • The Department of Defense sponsors the Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts, or MyCAA. The grant pays military spouses up to $3,000 for costs associate with education or career training. These grants are available for up to two years.

    Dependents' Educational Assistance

    • Dependents' Educational Assistance, or DEA, is a grant paid by Veterans Affairs and offers benefits for veteran dependents or spouses. For spouses, the grant helps pay for correspondence classes for up to 45 months.

    Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program

    • Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program, or SEAP, is for active-duty Army spouses who demonstrate financial need for education. The grant is limited to $2,500 per academic year.

    General George S. Brown Spouse Tuition Assistance Program

    • General George S. Brown Spouse Tuition Assistance Program, or STAP, is available for spouses of active-duty airmen and officers in the Air Force. It provides tuition assistance up to $1,500 per academic year.

    Navy Maine Corps Relief Society

    • The Navy Maine Corps Relief Society offers grants to spouses of active-duty Navy personnel. Grants are available up to $1,500 per academic year for undergraduate studies and $1,750 per year for graduate studies.
