Education for Military Spouses

There are several opportunities for spouses to educate themselves with the help of the military. All service organizations provide some form of assistance programs for spouses who are married to active duty members who serve in that military organization. Spouses who are married to veterans can also benefit from education programs.
  1. Career Advancement Accounts

    • The Department of Defense provides up to $6,000 for military spouses seeking to gain skills toward career advancement.

    The Dependents' Educational Assistance

    • Veteran Affairs offers up to 45 months of monetary assistance for veterans' spouses. The benefits can be used toward college, certificate programs, apprenticeship and on-the-job training.

    Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges (SOC)

    • The SOC is a program for military families that provides information on post-secondary schools that offer programs near or available to military installations. The credits are transferable within the SOC network.

    Stateside Spouse Education Assistance Program

    • The Army-based program is for spouses who reside in the United States who meet the financial need to gain assistance to further their education.

    General George S. Brown Spouse Tuition Assistance Program

    • The Air Force tuition program offers monetary assistance up to 50 percent of the cost of tuition for active duty Air Force spouses.

    Spouse Tuition Aid Program

    • The Navy Maine Corps Relief Society provides grants to spouses when the active duty service member is stationed overseas.
