Ohio Nursing Scholarships

Students who would like to pursue or continue a career in nursing are often discouraged by the costs of tuition and program fees. Ohio offers scholarships to assist with these costs, as long as a student meets the eligibility criteria (grade point average, residency, race and other factors) for each scholarship. Applicants should make sure to provide all necessary documentation, meet scholarship deadlines and uphold any agreements associated with the scholarship.
  1. Rice Memorial Scholarship

    • The Rice Memorial Scholarship is available for RNs majoring in nursing. The amount of this scholarship is $500 for an award year. The renewal process is not automatic, and an RN has to go through a competitive application process each year. The applicant must be an Ohio resident, have a valid RN license and a minimum grade-point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 grading scale), enroll in a nursing program for at least nine credit hours and be a cancer survivor (or a close relative of someone who has been diagnosed with cancer). The applicant must submit an official college transcript, letter of acceptance to an accredited Ohio nursing program and a personal statement (300 words maximum) on how the cancer experience has shaped her life.

Ohio Minority Leader Joyce Beatty Scholarship

    • Politicians in many states are sponsoring nursing scholarships to address the nursing shortages that are occurring in their regions. Ohio Minority Leader Joyce Beatty is an Ohio politician who has developed a scholarship to help nursing students cover the costs of tuition. The Ohio Minority Leader Joyce Beatty Scholarship is available to an Ohio resident pursuing his first nursing degree that leads to RN licensure. To qualify for this scholarship, an applicant must have attended an Ohio high school, be a member of a minority race and reside in central Ohio. The applicant must have a 3.5 grade point average in high school (at the end of his junior year) and be enrolled for a full-time nursing program in Ohio. The candidate must submit an application, along with an official high school transcript, college transcript (if previously attended) and a personal essay (100 words or less) on how he will advance the profession of nursing in the state of Ohio.
