The Virginia Department of Health offers a variety of scholarships to students pursuing nursing degrees in the state. The Commonwealth of Virginia Nursing Scholarship Program awards up to $20,000 per year to a master's or Ph.D. student who agrees to teach at a Virginia school of nursing upon graduating. Both full-time and part-time students are eligible to apply. In exchange for receiving funds through this scholarship program, a student must commit to working as a nurse in the state for one month for every $100 received.

The Virginia Daughters of the American Revolution provides scholarship support to Virginia nursing students through the Virginia Nursing Scholarship. The Virginia Nursing Scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000 for first place and $500 for second place. To be eligible, a student must be a graduating high school senior in the state of Virginia and must be planning to attend an accredited college of nursing within the state. In addition to completing a scholarship application, a student must also compose an essay of no more than 500 words on the subject of why they are pursuing a career in nursing. The annual deadline for application is February 1. Interested students should visit the VADAR website to download an electronic application.

The Virginia Nursing Students' Association offers several scholarships to nursing students in Virginia. The VNSA Traditional Student Scholarship is available to a nursing student who is an active member of the VNSA, who is pursuing a degree leading to certification as a registered nurse and who is pursuing her first nursing degree. This award varies by year, depending on available funds. The VNSA Second Degree Scholarship is available annually in the amount of $500 to a member of the VNSA who has already earned a bachelor's degree and is now returning to school to be certified as an RN. The annual deadline for VNSA scholarships is December 15.
