English Teacher Scholarships

Being an English educator is an admirable profession. You help to shape young minds in a field that 21st century employers value. However, like many career paths, this one requires a lengthy amount of education at a college or university. A college degree doesn't come cheap, either. Fortunately, there are a variety of scholarships available for those interested in becoming certified English instructors.
  1. The Scholastic Writing Awards

    • Open to students currently in seventh through 12th grade, the scholarship requires students to submit three to eight writing samples to the regional office of the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. It recognizes 400 students nationwide for their work in English, which can help you in your pursuit of a degree in English education. Five winners will receive the top prize of $10,000 in scholarship funds.

    Phi Kappa Delta Scholarships

    • Phi Kappa Delta International Education Foundation provides a variety of scholarships to future educators, including the Prospective Educators Scholarship. According to the organization's website, candidates must be either a "high school senior intending to major in education who is a member of a Future Educators Association chapter in good standing, high school senior intending to major in education who is the child or grandchild of a Kappan in good standing, a high school senior intending to major in education who has one of his/her reference letters written by a Kappan in good standing, high school senior intending to major in education whose application is selected to represent the local PDK chapter, [or] an undergraduate member of an FEA or PDK chapter who is enrolled in a college education program." The award is for $1,000.

    College-Specific Scholarships

    • The best way to get a scholarship to attend school to become an English teacher is to apply for scholarships offered by your chosen institution of higher education. Most Education and English departments have a variety of scholarships available. If you have good grades and can get strong letters of recommendation, you'll have a chance of receiving one.
