Special Education Teacher Scholarships in Kentucky

Students of special education in Kentucky have several scholarships reserved for their discipline alone, in addition to many sources of general funding. These scholarships come from individual Kentucky universities and the state government.
  1. KHEAA Teacher Scholarships

    • The Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority provides financial assistance for special education students through KHEAA Teacher Scholarships. The authority awards $2,500 per semester to juniors, seniors, and graduate students, and $625 per semester to freshman and sophomore students. To be eligible, a student must be a Kentucky resident and be enrolled in school full-time. In return for accepting these funds, a student commits to teach one semester in Kentucky for every semester of funding received. The annual deadline for application is May 3.

    University of Kentucky Scholarships

    • University of Kentucky students pursuing advanced degrees in special education are eligible for several scholarships. The Blackhurst Student Research Fund provides financial assistance to master's and doctoral candidates to conduct research and the Martin-Thacker Scholarship Fund helps a master's student in special education who has a certified disability. Several general education scholarships are open to both graduate and undergraduate students pursuing special education certification at the University of Kentucky.

    Eastern Kentucky University

    • Eastern Kentucky University offers several scholarships to students enrolled in the special education program. The Susan B. Harris Scholarship awards $200 annually to one junior and one senior who are specializing in communication disorders. The Interpreter Training Program Scholarship, which is given every year to a student enrolled in the Interpreter Training Program, is worth $500. The Crusade for Children Scholarship is available to students pursuing graduate degrees in special education.
