Bilingual Teacher Scholarships

A variety of scholarships are available to bilingual students pursuing careers as teachers. Bilingual teacher scholarships are available from a number of sources, including state government and bilingual education associations. These scholarships are often limited to students who live in a particular geographical area or to students who have experience working as a paraprofessional in an educational setting.
  1. Massachussetts Paraprofessional Teacher Preparation Grant Program

    • Massachusetts provides scholarship assistance to paraprofessional employees in education who are pursuing a degree in bilingual education. To be eligible, a student must be a legal resident of Massachusetts, a citizen or permanent resident of the United States and must be a paraprofessional working in a Massachusetts school. In addition, a student must not yet have a bachelor's degree and must not be in default on any government loans. This program provides support between $250 to $625 per credit, depending upon the type of institution a student is attending. Students attending a community college can receive up to $4,000 per year, state college students can receive up to $6,000 per year,and private college or public university students are eligible for up to $7,500 per year.     CABE Bilingual Teachership Awards

    • The California Association for Bilingual Education (CABE) provides scholarship assistance to students pursuing a career as a bilingual teacher through its Bilingual Teachership Program. These scholarships are awarded in the amount of $2,000. To be eligible, a student must be a member of CABE and must be currently working as a paraprofessional in a California school. The annual deadline for application is December 4. Interested students should visit the CABE website for complete program details.

    TABE Scholarship for Future Bilingual Educators

    • The Texas Association for Bilingual Education (TABE) provides scholarships for students pursuing a career as a bilingual educator through its Scholarships for Future Bilingual Educators. To be eligible, a student must have declared a specialization in bilingual education, must be a member of the Bilingual Education Student Organization, and must have completed at least 60 hours of postsecondary coursework with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or better. This scholarship is awarded in the amount of $1,000. The annual deadline for application is March 15. Interested students should visit the TABE website for more information.
