International Art Scholarships

Students studying art as part of a higher education program may be able to receive financial aid and scholarships to study art abroad. International art scholarships are available at all levels of study—and for a wide variety of art programs, including studio art, art history and art education.
  1. International Art Materials Trade Association (NAMTA)

    • The NAMTA Foundation Visual Arts Major scholarship is open to the public, not just NAMTA members. However, applicants must be pursuing visual arts or art education in the areas of drawing, painting, sketching, or sculpture—or any other creative medium, except for music or performing arts.

To apply for the scholarship, students must submit two or three works electronically (via CD or email), a high school or equivalent transcript, and a completed online application.

Studio Art Centers International in Florence

    • Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Florence offers study abroad programs that focus on art education, including post-baccalaureate certificate programs in art, art history and art conservation.

Students who are receiving financial aid can transfer those funds to SACI's international programs. SACI offers additional scholarships ranging from $500 to $2,500.

When applying to the SACI program, students should indicate that they would also like to apply for a scholarship. To complete the application for a studio art program, students should submit a CD or twenty labeled slides in a portfolio sleeve of current work. Students applying for a non-studio program, such as art history, should submit two art history writing samples.

Students should also complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application with SACI’s school code (G30501), a SACI Student Aid Report, or a SACI International Student Financial Information Questionnaire.

Applicants should be aware that the only scholarships available for the late spring and summer terms are for children of SACI alumni.

    The Beinecke Scholarship Program

    • The Beinecke Scholarship Program was founded to encourage graduate students to study art and the humanities in the U.S. and abroad. The program awards graduate students $4,000 prior to entering a graduate school art program and provides students with an additional $30,000 while they are attending school.

The Beinecke Scholarship Program places no geographic restriction on the institution that scholarship recipients attend, allowing students the freedom to study art abroad. To apply for the Beinecke Scholarship Program, students must first be nominated.
