International Christian Scholarships

Higher education can be expensive, especially when traveling abroad or attending private universities. Most students rely on loans, grants and scholarships to pay for school. Luckily, there are scholarship opportunities that fit in with every part of life, including religion. In particular, there are a number of international Christian scholarships out there.
  1. International Christian Scholarship Foundation

    • The International Christian Scholarship Foundation (ICSF) is one of the leading nonprofit organizations offering faith-based scholarships to students traveling throughout the world. It was founded in 1955 and has been running strong ever since, financially empowering ambitious Christians across the globe.

Primarily, the scholarships have focused on students attending college in the United States, Asia, Africa and Latin America. In 2008, ICSF awarded $190,422 in scholarships to students attending 39 schools in 22 different countries. The ICSF is sponsored by Church Women United–Southern California/Southern Nevada and awards scholarships based on leadership capabilities in order to help train future international Christian leaders.

    Christian International Scholarship Foundation

    • Despite having a similar name to ICSF, the Christian International Scholarship Foundation (CISF) is focused on funding the educational endeavors of a different set of Christians. Namely, they are those who already have a strong presence in theological organizations but require additional education that can only be found outside of their home countries. These scholarships are awarded to individuals in emerging countries who are planning to leave, further their education in advanced theology and return to a Christian leadership position that awaits them back at home. The scholarships focus mainly on people looking to study in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Deadlines typically are annually in December.

International Order of the King's Sons and Daughters

    • The International Order of the King’s Sons and Daughters (IOKSD) is an organization that offers a number of different scholarships to students who meet various criteria. The Around the World department, for example, awards scholarships to foreign students who are interested in pursuing higher education outside of the United States and Canada. They also award a special scholarship to 19- to 25-year-old students from anywhere in the world to the Chautauqua Institute in New York State. Students must have completed at least two years of college and be interested in arts, music, theology and learning.

Christian students looking to study medicine have scholarships available through this organization as well. They are privately funded and, therefore, vary from year to year in how much is awarded. Native American Christians have their own scholarship through the organization as well. Finally, the IOKSD offers a $1,000 scholarship to students in a Masters of Divinity program anywhere in the world.
